Cristiano Ronaldo insists Portugal "gave their all" at the 2014 World Cup, but admits in the end it just wasn't enough to progress.
A heavy defeat followed by a draw in their first two Group G matches left the Portuguese with a mountain to climb to get to the last 16, and although they were able to see off Ghana on Thursday, it was in vain as they finished third in the standings.
"We created many opportunities, but we couldn't take them all and we fell short," said Ronaldo.
"Looking at the result of the other game, and the chances we had, it was possible.
"We tried our best, we gave our all but ultimately, that's football."
